This means consistent thermal expansion, predictable machinability, and stable performance at extreme temperatures. Graphite's high melting point, low vapor pressure, and excellent thermal conductivity make it the standard choice for evaporation of many deposition materials.

Graphite is the workhorse of vacuum deposition. Its thermal conductivity and heat capacity allow the crucible to absorb and distribute electron beam power without hot spots, maintaining stable evaporation rates and film uniformity. Unlike metals, graphite doesn't melt — it sublimes above 3600°C, giving an enormous operating window for even the most demanding processes.
